Since joining UNHCR in 1980, he has worked to save the maximum number of lives in an emergency situation such as open warfare, trying to curb the atrocities committed and the logic of war itself. He developed its activities in Africa, Central America, Kurdistan and in the former Yugoslavia.

The award was presented in Lleida.
