Dr. Hans Blix

Director of the United Nations Mission in charge of inspecting the possession of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

For having spent more than 40 years in activities related to the United Nations, international law and disarmament. He was personally called by the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, to be the Executive Chairman of the United Nations Commission for Monitoring, Verification and Inspection (UNMOVIC), a position he held for three years. He was a defender of the peaceful way for the resolution of the conflict in Iraq.

The award was presented in Barcelona.
