For his fight in favor of refugees and immigrants in one of the areas most affected in recent years by the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean, and for managing to stop the local mafias and mobilize almost the entire population of the island in favor of honor and the dignity of the newcomers.

He has called for an urgent reform of the right to asylum, as well as to increase humanitarian aid, plan a reception at European level and distribute refugees and migrants between the different states of the European Union.

The award was presented in Barcelona.
